Art Vistas
Art Vistas is a parent run art program that teaches kids various aspects of art through brief lectures and hands on projects. Throughout the year the children will complete approximately 6 projects focusing on age-appropriate subjects. At the end of the year, the projects are displayed at our Annual Art Show.

Art Vistas docents are parent volunteers who attend two, two-hour training sessions throughout the year and then teach the lecture and art project to the students. This is a fun way to get involved in your child’s class on a regular basis as well as learn something about art yourself!

Clay Program
Our clay program is a special program for Carlton – not every school has this opportunity! The clay program teaches kids about ceramics – from forming to firing to glazing. Kids will create projects throughout the year and then give them as gifts and/or keepsakes to their families.

Parent volunteers run this program, so participation is greatly appreciated!

Garden Club
Carlton Garden Club meets on Tuesdays during lunch. Each week students come to learn about gardening while actively planting and maintaining a variety of flowers and vegetables. Our program follows a garden curriculum that meets California State Standards in Science, written for 1st, 2nd & 3rd grade. This is also our guideline for projects and activities. All Carlton students are welcome and encouraged to join in from week to week.

Math Challenge

Math Challenge is a free school-wide enrichment program for elementary students consisting of series of challenging and interesting math problems. Every two weeks students have a chance to solve themed problems and to get a small prize for each submission. All eligible students will receive a certificate of achievement/ participation at the end of the year.

Project Cornerstone
Project Cornerstone Asset Building Champions volunteers spend time in the classrooms (TK-5) using literacy to address issues like student to student respect and how to avoid being bullied, as well as values like honesty, caring, and responsibility. Volunteer readers attend a monthly training on a Project Cornerstone selected book and lesson plan. The volunteers then read the children’s story to the class and facilitate an activity in the classroom to build assets and create a caring school environment.

For more information please contact abc@carltonhsc.org

You can also refer to the school newsletter, the monthly parent letter sent from your classroom reader(s), and the Project Cornerstone website for more information.

Running Club
Running Club takes place on Wednesdays all year long when weather permits. After lunch the kids can go to the track and run laps for as long as they want – 1 lap or 10, it doesn’t matter. The purpose of the club is to promote a healthy lifestyle and teach kids to get moving. Runners receive a necklace for the year and they are awarded a charm for every 5 laps they complete. It’s a fun way to hang with friends while getting some exercise! Family members are welcome to join us as well!
